Vietnam Restaurant, San Francisco

This is a divey kind of hole in the wall that is very easy to miss, but they serve a very good bowl of pho. This was recommended to me by a coworker who said that it was his favorite in the area, because the broth has a clean taste and doesn’t burn his mouth, unlike most of the other pho restaurants… So, I had to take his word for it and give it a try, and I have become a fan!

It definitely looks like a dive, but it proudly has a department of public health score of 100 posted in the window!  There are only 2 tables that fit 4 in the back, a couple (maybe just one) of little tables in the front and a counter with seats.  We got the requisite veggie plate of bean sprouts, basil, lime and jalapeno

I ordered the special with flank, brisket, meatball and tripe, but sadly no tendon… It is a very clean, fresh tasting broth, although it lacks the spicy flavors and aromas that I love at Le Soleil in San Leandro… But it is a very good bowl, especially when the weather is cold, and a very reasonably priced $6.

I agree. Definitely great broth.. doesn’t give you the weird aftertaste. glad to know that it ranked 100 on their health inspection report.
