Happy Donuts

Battery near Market

I come here not for the donuts, because donuts are snacks as far as I’m concerned, they don’t stick to the ribs… I come here for their chinese buns, which are tucked up at the top of the display case.

Today I got a hot dog bun, which was somehow unsatisfactory. I love pigs in a blanket, but the dough is not croissant pastry dough, is the same dough they use for pork buns, and cocktail buns, so it’s slightly on the sweet side, and overall wrong. I even tried a dab of mustard on it later, and it was wrong wrong wrong.

So, it is a good thing that they also have very good baked pork buns, and their cocktail buns rock. they are filled with an intensely sweet buttery egg custard with coconut and heady overtones of vanilla wrapped inside of a soft, fluffy but dense baked bun sprinkled with sesame seeds – heavenly and addictive…

Interesting, we haven’t got the baked pork buns in Japan yet! Should come soon, though!
Cheers,
