I have to tell you about a fabulous sandwich that was recently introduced at the Habit Burger, which was recently rated by Consumer Reports as having the best tasting fast food burger in America based on a reader survey. Now that is high praise and it’s no secret that they are one of my favorite fast casual burger places in the area, so I was excited when I was invited in to check out their new Golden Chicken Sandwich, which is only available for a limited time. It is made with tender chicken breast that is coated with a light crispy batter and fried to a juicy golden brown then topped with creamy, spicy red pepper sauce, crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes, tangy pickles on a toasted soft bun.
It is simple and delicious, a balance of flavors and textures: crunchy, juicy, spicy, salty and fresh, surrounded by a tender bun and your tastebuds are tantalized by the sweet and spicy, rich and creamy red pepper sauce.
I love how the inside side of the pillowy bun has been toasted on the griddle, which gives it a lovely flavor and keeps it from getting soggy. There’s maybe a little too much lettuce cuz it keeps falling out, but the vegetables add a fresh texture that is so good with the rich spicy sauce. And did I mention that it’s $6.25 and is only on the menu through the end of November?
This was our feast of the Golden Chicken Sandwich with my favorite sides, Tempura Green Beans ($2.99) and Onion Rings ($2.45) and ranch dressing of course, to dip them in. It was so good I went back again to get the above cross-section shot and to make sure it was as good as I remembered… it was golden!
Thanks Habit Burger for joining the fried chicken sandwich frenzy and making it affordable, easy to find and so much better than your average fast-food fried chicken!
